Help After Having a Baby
Giving birth is a joyful event, but can be hard on a woman’s body. Pain, leaking urine and constipation are just some of the problems women face after pregnancy. These problems are common, but physical therapy can address them and help you get back to a normal life. Don’t needlessly suffer. Ask your provider for a referral to physical therapy.
What symptoms are COMMON to have after delivering your baby but NOT NORMAL?
- Separation of abdominal muscle (Diastasis Recti)
- Pain in pelvic area or groin (Pubic symphysis pain)
- Pain in the vagina or rectum
- Abdominal pain
- Low back pain, neck pain, thoracic spine pain, shoulder pain
- Heaviness or pressure in vaginal area or pelvis (Pelvic organ prolapse)
- Constipation
- Leakage of urine with cough, laugh, sneeze (Stress urinary incontinence)
- Strong urges to urinate and must rush to the bathroom with leakage (Urge urinary incontinence)
- Urinary urgency/frequency - strong urges to urinate and must rush to the bathroom but without leakage
- Difficulty starting a urine stream or straining to start a urine stream
- Painful intercourse
- Difficulty holding back gas
