Christie Brockman, DNP, WHNP-BC is passionate about offering non-judgmental care to women throughout their lifespan. Best part of her work: “Connecting with patients and learning about their home life, family, and interests. Building relationships helps build trust.”
She talks about meeting people where they are, getting her start in healthcare at the old Northfield Hospital, and cupcakes.
First job? I worked at Dairy Queen in Farmington, where I learned the importance of customer service and good communication with people. That serves me well now.
Free time? I enjoy watching my kids participate in sports. My two sons participate in wrestling and baseball, and my daughter plays basketball, volleyball, and track. I like being outdoors. I enjoy going running with my dog. He is a 4-year-old golden retriever, and is full of energy. I also enjoy gardening, although I don't claim to be good at it.
Best part of your work? I really enjoy connecting with patients and learning about their home life, family, and interests. Building relationships with my patients helps build trust, and allows me to assist them in meeting their healthcare goals.
Best advice you ever got? Growing up, I was taught to show kindness and empathy towards others. We never know what someone is going through in their life, so it's important to me that people aren't feeling judged. Showing kindness and empathy toward others is easy, and it might make a big difference in someone's day.
Why healthcare? I began working in healthcare as a nursing assistant around age 17 on the Dilley Unit at the old Northfield Hospital near Way Park. Ever since then, I have found enjoyment in comforting others during difficult times. I have been told that I have a calm and comforting demeanor. I simply enjoy helping others.
If not healthcare, what would you be doing? I would probably work somewhere where I could use my creative side. I enjoy baking and crafting, so I think I would be decorating cakes or cupcakes somewhere.
