Falling off a bike can cause serious head (and face) injuries. Kids should wear a helmet for every ride. (Grownups, too.)
9 tips to get kids to wear their bike helmets:
Set the helmet habit early: On scooters, tricycles, baby seat on parent’s bike
- Wear a helmet yourself
- Tell your kids WHY you want to protect their heads: They can permanently hurt their brains or even die of head injuries
- Remind them bikes are vehicles, not toys
- Point to grownups: Pro athletes wear helmets; Olympic bike racers can’t compete without one
- Let your kids choose & decorate their helmet
- Don't let your kids ride without a helmet
- Reward them for wearing helmets
- Encourage their friends to wear helmets
Kids can be stubborn . . . but they’re not hard-headed.
